Legal Lens: Viewing Law Through Ingrum Expertise

Defending against domestic assault charges - Ingrum Law

If you have been charged with domestic assault, then you need to hire experienced counsel to defend you and your Constitutional rights. If you are convicted of domestic assault, then you could be sentenced to jail or probation, and you could permanently lose your 2nd Amendment right to possess a firearm for the rest of your life, unless the charge is later expunged.

In many situations where domestic assault is charged, alcohol or drugs is involved in some form or fashion. Either the alleged defendant or the alleged victim or both were drinking or were intoxicated on the date in question. Emotions are high and people sometimes overreact and get legal authorities involved. Sometimes the party that called 911 regrets calling the police. Sometimes that caller is the alleged victim, and sometimes that caller is the alleged defendant.  The parties oftentimes reconcile after the alleged incident.  The parties want to try to "take it back," but they are unable to do so.

The reality is that a conviction for domestic assault may cost someone their marriage, their children, their job, or their home. These consequences can put a lot of stress on a person and on a relationship. Don't risk appearing in court without qualified legal counsel to guide you through the process and to advise you of your rights every step of the way.
